Berry

Oh man. I just received a Blackberry. It's a pretty neat tool. It seems to be capable of doing almost anything. I do wish the texting was a little easier. I feel that will be the main use for the device. It does internet and calendars as well. Can even do Word and Powerpoint programs. Crazy cool. I'm going to have to figure out how to put some music on there. A little Bon Iver, maybe or some JUSTICE. It's a cool device.

Beirut - The Flying Club Cup

I love this album. I love this band. I want to see them live. If you proceed over to http://www.archive.org/ one can download a concert, it's great! I don't know where to begin. This album has been out for awhile, I've even had it for awhile. Matt sent it to me via snail mail. It reminds me of a Balkan sounding Bobby Darin. A crooner if you will. But there's lots of French spoken; so not so much Balkan. The video to "Elephant Gun" is classic but I prefer the live video on YouTube of "Nantes." It's simple and effective. How grand would it be to be sitting at a cafe and have a man and an accordion start performing next to you? Love it. Makes me want to shave my beard except for a mustache and wear tweed. Say words like "grand" and "dandy" and extol the virtues of P.G. Wodehouse.

All the cuts on this album are fantastic (no "Elephant Gun"). I prefer the track "Cliquot." The build is wonderful.

Too long

It's been a really long time since I've posted anything at this site. Sorry sorry. Let me think about what's gone on in the past few months in this topic of Music and stuff.

  • Mother sent me a package which included Jesus of Montreal, Straight Story, Johnny English, and the first Season of My Name is Earl. The Jason Lee show, awesome. I like mustaches and likeable rednecks, plus Catalina is gorgeous. Jesus is a good movie. I liked it a lot. The characters were fantastic and the acting superb. I liked their passion play and the intensity it created. Didn't quite understand the ending but that's because I'm not quite literate on the Bible. I did think the death was WAY to obvious. Could he be anymore Christlike? It's worse than Billy Budd. I have yet to watch Straight Story, but I like David Lynch.
  • I've discovered Daytrotter. It's a cool blog filled with cool independent music. I discovered it by getting into Thao Nguyen. She's a cool folksie sounding artist from the west coast. I think she is really fantastic. I will definitely be buying her album with the Get Down Stay Down. I discovered her, through Lost at E Minor, a decent blog that was easier to navigate in previous days (much like Current). Daytrotter is cool though. Not only do they provide great music from some interesting bands (so I can listen to new music), but they have cool articles and nice artwork. Turns out I'd had a little sample of their music before, though. I had some David Bazan stuff. Now I have more of their "sessions."
  • Yelle. She's pretty awesome. An electro french princess. Not only does she dress like she's from a big city with shiny dayglo clothes and flashy belts but she has really fun pounding beats. I would love to dance to her music in a club. I would love to buy her album when I return to the states. Also, her fan's videos are awesome. Tecktonic, I think is the dance craze. It's pretty cool.
  • I'm eagerly awaiting the third season of Battlestar Galactica. The Internet is filled with talk and gossip ever since the fourth (and final) season started. I'm a season behind but man I cannot wait. I love that show. It's so good.
  • Marie has Grey's Anatomy season three. I'm tempted to run over to her apartment and grab it. I could finish it fast enough. I would never watch it in the states but I'm not in the States so I look forward to seeing it. Addictive show.

Johnny English

This is a film of the highest caliber. Just kidding. It's alright. It's the British version of Martin Lawerence. It's the same jokes, the same style over and over again. Both comedians take certain stereotypes and play it "to the max." Johnny English is the clumsy and very English hero that performs the same physical comedy that he did in his other films. People feel comfortable with Rowan Atkinson, so they flock to his latest films. He is good at what he does but it just gets old after awhile.

I do have to say, some of the one liners are pretty funny. I still like the line about the only thing the french should host is an invasion. That's good. That's really funny. But this go around the best thing was watching Natalie Imbruglia. She's amazingly attractive. Why didn't she make it bigger? I don't remember her music sucking a whole bunch. She's pretty gorgeous. Why didn't she continue to be a huge seller? I'm curious. I must hear what her follow up album sounds like. Not that I can remember her biggest hit.

My mother just sent this in a package. I thank her for it. It is nice to turn one's mind off and check out eye candy. Whether it's hot cars or hot women or just good ole slapstick. Thanks madre.
